I don’t know about you, but any chance I get to eat outdoors I take advantage of it. It’s been a rough summer in Chicago; too much rain, very cool, not enough heat. But fortunately, I was finally able to make it to my next al fresco dining destination on a beautiful cool summer night.
A few friends and I decided to check out this 9,000 square-foot sprawling venue at the new Loews Chicago Hotel located in Streeterville. (which by the way also has another great indoor restaurant that’s fast becoming one of my favorites called Rural Society. I’ll save that for another time.) It’s definitely a standout rooftop option for this neighborhood.
Even though Streeterville Social is only a 3rd floor rooftop the views are still beautiful from every corner. The terrace is broken down into two bar areas. We started our adventure at the bistro.
The menu is limited but our favorites were the kimchi chicken wings and if you like lamb, you’ll be a big fan of the Crispy Lamb Belly Gyro. I’m not a Lamb fan but my friends loved it. Oh, and the crazy huge bucket o’ fries were a hit too.
The container they come in make it way too easy to pass around and keep eating. They also have a fun variety of signature cocktails and a nice wine and champagne list. There’s a section on the menu called The Pink Page dedicated to Rose’ only. How fun on a warm summer night. The only thing that was missing was a charcuterie plate. I love lounging outdoors with a nice glass of wine and cheese and crackers. Maybe that will show up later.
After a relaxing hour and a half we headed to the other side.
It’s crazy over there. It’s a park like setting with another bar, seating area, grassy lawn for games such as bean bag toss, Jenga, croquet and more. There’s even swinging birdcage chairs. It’s pretty over the top.
If you want to get out on a nice summer night, enjoy the beautiful city skyline and lounge for a few hours, Streeterville Social is a great spot. Go early or just be willing to wait. Everyone else is discovering it too and the crowds have already started heading that way. Dining al fresco is What’s On My Mind.
Do you have a favorite summer outdoor dining spot? Let me know. Maybe I’ll try it out next.
