Visions for 2016!

Happy New Year? Seriously! Where did the time go? We say it every year. As I look back I realize I have so much to be thankful for. A lot has happened. I remember being unsure of myself as I rang in 2015 and I’m sure I’ll have a lot of questions when I welcome in 2016.

But here’s what I know. It’s all about you and your mindset. Sure, we never know what the new year will bring but isn’t that uncertainty part of the excitement? The possibilities are endless. We just have to believe, confirm and validate.

I’m not talking about New Year’s Resolutions. Studies have found they don’t work. Here’s what does …setting goals. But not just talking about them put them in print.

Dr. Gail Matthews, a professor from Dominican University in California did a study on goal setting and found that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals just by writing them down.

Last year I remember gathering a few of my girlfriends with snacks and wine and a lot of magazines to put together a “vision board.” Do you know what those are? It’s basically a tool on which you write down or display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life.

Some people go all out with these. Here’s my vision board I put together last year. It’s pretty basic.

The theme was mostly about reaching success with my new company and maintaining a life balance both professionally and personally. One of my girlfriends envisioned a new beginning after divorce and a new love in her life. The others were looking for success with changes going on in their lives for both family and work. Initially, they rolled their eyes at me and thought this was a crazy idea. But in the end, everyone had fun and we all agreed this was a great idea; putting our visions, life’s hopes and dreams in words on hardcopy for us to see and the universe to hear. Mine now sits prominently in my home office. So whenever I sit down at my computer to work, I can go back over what I wished for, what is actually happening and what is yet to be.

So how does it look to me a year later? Many of my visions have already come true. Those that haven’t just yet will be prominently placed on my new vision board to make sure it’s still a priority for me in 2016. I know it all sounds so cheesy and hokey but it’s a great constant reminder for me.

Looking back on my vision board and speaking to my friends about theirs, it’s fun to see how far we’ve all come. And I can’t wait to see how far we will go. Happy New Year to all and here’s to a 2016 filled with your visions, goals and dreams coming true.

Have you made a vision board? Do you have other ways of setting your goals? Share your tips and suggestions.
